I can not believe that summer is almost over. Where did it go? I have really been slacking on keeping up this blog and it is not because there has not been lots of things going on. LOL. It is just a matter of setting priorities! I will try to do better!

The Royal Wedding

I got up early this morning (3:30 a.m.) to watch the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton. I wanted to help make history.

What a beautiful wedding, such a pretty bride and very nice groom (his Mother would have been proud) As a former florist, I was surprised at her bridal bouquet. I never could figure out why a bride would want to carry one of those big, heavy bouquets, but I have to admit I loved making them! Her wedding dress was elegant. I think she really had what she wanted on her wedding day, not what the world wanted.

Queen Elizabeth has been all my life, and still is one of my favorite people. She looked to pretty in her yellow outfit. Almost 70 years ago my Mother had a pen Pal from England and later I wrote to his niece for several years. this was the reason I have the interest in England that I do.

Today is a beautiful day here in Washington (St George, UT) I think spring has sprung. We hope to attend the Kite Flying Festival,the Farmers Market at Tuachan, the grand opening of the Polaris Victory Dealership and maybe we will go out to the fairgrounds in Hurricane and watch our neighbor boy Paul Green win the horse race this afternoon. There was a nice article written about Paul in the local newspaper yesterday.

What more could we ask for to do on a nice Spring day?

I am excited to invite you to join in my FAMILY YEARBOOK WORKSHOP. Contact me TODAY to register. The workshop is FREE and held online, through Go To Meeting. I will be holding a workshop on the first Monday night of each month at 8:00 p.m.

I want to help each of you get back to scrapbooking your families activities. Each month I will teach a 2 page layout. By the end of the year we will have completed an entire yearbook album. In early December we will have a publishing party and be ready to give a gift from our heart.

Many things have happened since I last posted. Seems my life is full every day. We have returned home after spending an enjoyable winter in the St. George area. I am convinced that our insurance should just pay our expenses to go south instead of pay for our arthritis meds. Ha ha. What happened to Spring? When will the rain and cold weather end?

My dear sweet Mother fell and fractured her neck which resulted in her moving into the Heritage Home, something we wished she would never have to do, but the loving care given to her there is the best thing at this point in her life. She just celebrated her 87th birthday.

On June 9, 2010, I attended the "Get Motivated!" Seminar at the Energy Solutions Arena in Salt Lake City, UT. It was very well presented. I enjoyed and learned something from each of the speakers starting with the UofU football coach, General Colin Powell, John Walsh of TV's "America's Most Wanted", Former Massachusetts Governor and Presidential candidate Mitt Rommeny, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palain, Co. Owner Tammy Lowe and several others. I think once in a while it is important to take a day for yourself. Other than having a little car trouble it was one of those "a good day ends with a good ice cream cone" days :o)!

Due West Country Western Band to perform in Grace, Idaho May 27th

While in St. George, I attended a concert at the beautiful Tuacahn Amphiyheater by Due West, a talented country Western band from Nashville. The lead singer, Tim Gates, is the brother of Cary McAurther, one of my Heritage Makers Friends from St. George. The band will be doing a fundraiser for Wade Wheeler Memorial Scholarship FundThursday, May 27 @ 7:30 PM at The Gem Valley Performing Arts Center in Grace, Idaho. We are "Snow Birding" in southern Utah.......

I guess I better do a little catch up here on my blog. My husband and I are testing the "snow bird" thing. (That is where you leave cold and snowy Idaho and relocate in southern Utah for the winter.) We left home right after Christmas and are living in our 5th wheel trailer in Kings Row in Washington, Utah, near St. George, Utah.

I never dreamed that I would get my husband to do this and actually it was his idea this year. We are lovin it here. They tell us that this has been an unusually wet and colder year but we don't even mind the rain, the sun always comes out after each storm. We have been traveling around to see the beautiful country and doing some fun 4 wheel riding each week. We have learned that there really is life after farming/working. I have gotten over the feeling guilty because all my friends and family are not here with us, and have really settled in.

I am still working with my Heritage Makers clients and enjoy the free time I have to work on HM projects. LIFE IS GOOD.....

Our good friend Richard Paul Evans just released another book,THE CHRISTMAS LIST. If it is anything like any of his other books it will be a #1 seller. I can't wait to get a copy, I have heard so many good things about it. I met Rick almost 15 years ago when he wrote his frist book, THE CHRISTMAS BOX. Rick touched our lives in a way no one could understand unless you to have lost a child. I hope to go to SLC December 6th for the gathering at the angel monumnet. A Happy Day and a Sad Day!

July 28th.... Today is a happy Day because it is the birthday of our oldest son Robbie and it is a day of celebration but it is also a sad day because he was killed in a farm accident 41 years ago and is no longer with us (except in our hearts). The loss of a child is a very difficult thing to survive but we have joy from having him in our lives if even for just a short 2 1/2 years. For many years I worried about something happening to the few precious photo's we had of him and I always intended to get them into a safety deposit box in our bank but it just didn't happen. But now, I am at peace because I have told Robbie's life story and our story about him and the joy he brought to us.

Hi everyone!

Starting this week, I will be posting more Heritage Makers information here in my blog. I hope you will make it a habit to check back often :0)

I just returned from two great vacations. My husband and two of our Granddaughters went to Grant, Montana (west of the Clark Canyon Dam) for an awesome Rander ride along the top of the Contenital Divide with Montana on one side and Idaho on the other. We had some challanges getting thorugh the snow banks but the effort was well worth it for the awsome view.

This week we had fun at Island park with my brothers. We drove the entire loop round yellowstone Park and enjoyed dinner at West Yellowstone. The next day we visited Hebdon and Quake lake. It was so interesting to learn all about the quake that happened August 17, 1959. I was a Jr. at Preston High and working at the Sky View Drive in Theater. I still remember it as if it just happened but it will soon be 50 years.

Life is Good. Now i have to get busy and get all my photo's edited and uploaded to Heritage Makers so I can get some albums published. I would love to show you how it's done!!!

Could it be..... that SPRING is really here. Oh I hope so. It is sunny and beautiful outside today and the snow from last week here in southern Idaho has melted. I just looked out and saw 2 robins who have returned to build their nests in our big pine tree out back. My tulips and daffodills have grown several inches in the last few days. Life is good.

I just completed a 12"x12" hardbound storybook about our Alaska cruise. I used Heritage Makers and built this book from scratch. I just love all the wonderful collections of images available to us (over 35,000). I had fun making each layout from a difffernt collection. I hope you enjoy it.

Here in southeastern Idaho we had a few good days, infact I got my flower gardens all cleaned out and planted peas, radishes and luttce (Joy, the gardner on Good things Utah said it was OK.) But then Wednesday we had another huge snow storm abd so the ground is white again! I have enjoyed this winter since I now have a "stay at home, set your own hours" job with Heritage Makers. I have not had to drive on slick roads, not even once. Speaking of slick roads, I have a dear HM's friend who hit slick ice and rolled her car a few weeks ago and she sent me some information that I think is important to know. Do not use your cruise control when driving on slick and slusshy roads as it effects your car and can send it flying through the air.

I have been busy as ever. Much to my surprise, as I thought I had retired after 10 years of directing Happiness Is Scrapbooking Educational Scrapbooking Seminars, the gals called me and ask if I would help them one more year. I just had the most fun conversation with a sweet lady from, I believe she said Michigan who found my contact through the Oprah O list web site. She saw Gail on Good Morning America the other day and was interested in some things for her granddauthers for Christmas. In her search for the product, she came acoss my Happiness Is blog where I was talking about the O Magazine, and gave me a call. I wasn't able to take down her number but I hope she follows through with an email to me.

I am so proud to be a Professional Publishing Consultant with Heritage Makers were our great products are endorced by a woman as knowledgable and powerful across the nation as Oprah. I hope our connection with Oprah and the fact that she selected us this year as one of her favorite gifts for Christmas, will be longlasting and that we can get a story book in every home.

Heritage Makers and...Oprah???

It's official...

Heritage Makers has been invited to be featured in one of the fall publications of O MAGAZINE under the section, The O List ! Do you want to know the rest of the story?

When the first storybook was written by my daughter, Candace May, some nine years ago, the storybooking movement began. Our dream was to place a storybook in each home in America and to believe that Oprah, someone who held the same enthusiasm for the power of story as we did, would call us someday and say, "Come on down."

Just over a year ago, my youngest daughter, Angi Hirsche, was invited to be on the Oprah Show and talk about how she handled a very difficult situation when she was robbed and the assailant attempted to kidnap her. When Angi traveled to Chicago for the show, she took with her a small box of our Heritage Makers' storybooks and products. She presented them to Oprah. Oprah was impressed!

Then, seven weeks ago, Gayle King, the Editor-at-Large of O Magazine, and Oprah's best friend, invited Angi to New York, to revisit the topic of women's safety. Again, I packed Angi with a great variety of our books and products. After the taping, Angi sat with Gayle for five minutes of uninterrupted time. Gayle said to Angi, "We are interested in companies like this for O Magazine, FIRST. This is incredible!" She then asked Angi about the company's history and was intrigued about the mother-daughter aspect, and how the company began with a storybook of an ordinary little grandfather. She ended the conversation with, "Your mother will hear from me."

Two weeks ago, I received two emails and a phone call from Gayle's assistant asking for some further information. She also told me that our products were being prepared to be featured in one of the fall publications of Oprah's favorite things (the O List) in O Magazine.

Dreams do happen! The next part of the dream, to place a storybook in every home in America (and then the world!), will only happen because of you! ...

Happiness Is Scrapbooking Seminar a Great Success

We held our Happiness Is Scrapbooking Seminar over the weekend and it was a Great success. We had some fun loving gals who joined us for the 2 day event. We had a good selection of classes and from the comments, I think everyone enjoyed it.

On Friday night we had a good turn out for the crop and several of the booths where set up and doing some good make n' take projects. Those who were able to attend got just a little bit extra to go home with.

On Saturday we started early and held one class after another. One of the highlights for the day was the Heritage Makers Workshop taught by Pam Hanks, a founding director who started with HM when it launched. Pam showed attendies some of the projects that can be competed with the digital images available from HM. Included were some beautiful hard bound books, in all sizes, posters, pages printed in several sizes and calendars. Everyone loved the digital and many are taking advantage of the FREE Basic account I am giving. If you would like an account so you can get some building some great ablums contact me.

I have been directing these seminar for 10 years and it seems each one is more enjoyable than the previous one. I want to give a huge THANKS to my daughter and granddaughters who helped and to my friends who pitched in to help us in any way. Anyone who knows me knows that Richard Paul Evans, Author of "The Christmas Box" is a personal friend of mine. I believe he came into our lives to help us 25 years after the death of our oldest son who was killed in a farm accident. Years after we first met Rick, he wrote about my husband and I and our experience with the loss of our son in his book "The Christmas Box Miricle".

We love Rick and always enjoy a good visit with him. Our most treasured time was when he invited us to go on an Alaska cruise with him 4 years ago. Each December 6th I try to attend the ceremony at the SLC Cemetary. I was the florist who provide hundreds of white roses for the dedication of the fist Angel statue on December 6, 1996. Now many travel long distances to place flowers at the base of the Angel in memory of their loved one.

Yesterday I finished reading his latest book, just released this month, called "Grace" I had a million things to do as I am getting ready for our Happiness Is Scrapbooking Seminar and Workshops next week, but after getting about half way through the book, I could not put it down. I love the story and I know why Rick wrote it. I cried and cried but they were good tears. I hope each of you will buy and read the book and then respond to Ricks request at the end of the book. Yesterday I jumped at a chance to spend a day with my husband and some of our friends as we went on a 4 wheel ride in Utah. We rode up to Willard Peak which looks down over the valley and out over Willard Bay, Brigham City and Ogden and the Great Salt Lake. I can really say we were sitting on top of the world. What an awesome experience :o)

As we peacefully sat on top of the mountain, I could not help but think that so many of us just miss the good things in life either because we don't know they are there for us to experience, or never slow down enough to enjoy them. God has created the world for us but it is up to us to take advantage of it.

Just a year ago this week was our first trip to Willard Peak. I loved it so much that I published it in a hard bound book so we would never forget it. I will place that album here so everyone can see it.

Oh my gosh I have just got to tell you about my wonderful trip to Calif. I just got home from the Heritage Makers Reunion. I had a wonderful time but more that that, I have peace of mind that I have really found what I am suppose to be doing on this earth. I knew before I went that HM was the #1 digital company but little did I know what I was in store for me. This is an awesome company with a mission to help everyone tell their stories and preserve their photo's I am so excited to help all my friends, family and bussiness people tell their stories.

Well I am ready, I am packed, California here we come! I have been invited and encouraged to go to Anaheim, Calif for the Heritage Makers Reunion and training. Since I want to get off to a good start with the company, I decided what better way to learn more about digital scrapbooking than attending several workshops.

The gals within HM are so friendly and sweet and some gals from Utah have invited me to drive down with them and so I am leaving tomorrow. I can't wait to tell you all about it when I return. Oh, I hope I get to meet Minnie and Mickey while I am there. Next time I will take all of you with me :o)

I have to say how pleased I am to have make some revisions to my blog. I started the blog some time ago but just wasn't quite with it (I hardly knew how to find it on the internet) and then some of my digital scrapbooking friends were talking about their blogs and how easy they are to use so I decided it was time to get with it :o)

With some suggestions and comments from some of my friends in Yahoo groups, I got up enough courage to click some buttons and see what changes were possible before long I was flyin high and feeling like designing a blog is easy and fun. Now, my blog will never be perfect and it won't be the best one you ever view, but it is mine and I can do whatever I want with it!!!

Isn't it nice to have friends who are so willing to showoff what they do and share the "this is how you do it" instructions. I think this is why I love scrapbooking, everyone is so willing to share their talents and idea, and I love using them.

Beautiful Fall Weather

September is always a favorite time of year for me. Today as I spent some time outdoors with my little 4 year old grandson I could not help but watch as he enjoyed all the fun and beautiful things that come with the fall season. This was one of the few times that I didn't have my camera with me but I can save those precious memories in my mind and remember this beautiful day.

Life is to short not to take time to to ENJOY.

Gosh how time passes by...... I just can't believe it has been a month since I posted to my blog. I guess I am just so busy enjoying retirement that I can't keep track of the days! I really do have a lot of things to share with you.

10th Annual Happiness Is Scrapbooking Seminar The Best One Ever!
We held seminar on May 16-17th in Ogden, Ut. Our numbers were down, but the fun, excitement and spirt was up. We had some of the sweetest gals (and one super guy) attend. Classes were great and using the power point presentations I think really helped everyone. We didn't have time to cover everything so watch for some mini classes to be scheduled. I will be setting up a time for digital scrapbooking so contact me if you are interested. A BIG Thank You goes to Penny and Shelly, my partners and to my grandaughters Kayla and Hali and Penny's daughter, Brittney, and to my friends Galene and Cheryl, who helped so much. (No one sees all the behind the scene work or making packets, packing up, unpacking, setting up, etc. that goes on). Another BIG Thank You to those who took time to set up booths and joined us for the 2 day event. TLC - Top Line Creations surprised us!

Top Line Creations TLC announced late Friday, April 4, 2008 that they were changing from a multi level direct sales organization to a discount buyer’s club. All consutantships have been dissolved. There will no longer be any uplines, downlines, or teams, etc. There will be no commissions or bonus paid to anyone. All of us who were former consultants will automatically be enrolled in the buyer’s club. There will be discounts within the buyer’s club ranging from 25-40% . This quick announcement was a shock to all of us. No one had any advance notice, not even the directors or designers.

Over the next few weeks I will be making a decision as to where I plan to go. I love digital scrapbooking and for over a year I have been working not only with TLC but also Memory Mixer (Lasting Impressions) who was the mother company to digital scrapbooking as we know it through TLC. On the mend following knee surgery

Much has happened since I went in the hospital February 27th. My knee surgery (a total knee replacement) was successful. I was in the McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Ut for 4 days and then I chose to go to a wonderful rehab/thrapy place to get the best help I could get. So all in all I was away from home almost a month. I am now at home trying to do what they tell me to do to strenghten it and make sure I have good movement. This isn't the most fun thing I have ever done, but boy I am glad at least one is done. I plan to wait a year for the other one!

I thought I would have all this free time in the hospitals to get lots of good scrapbookng done but seems I just went from one thrapy session to the next.
If spring ever arrives, I will be ready to go!

Ready For Surgery?

Ready or not here I go...... I have been living with pain for years now, especially since I ran over myself. that's right, about 10 years ago I left my flower shop to run a quick errand to pick up pizza and all the trimmings to celebrate the birthday of one of my favorite employees. As was the way I do things, I was on the run, rushing to get back for the party. I jumped out of what then was my new Dodge Van with the Pizza box, bread sticks and two drinks stacked up. Yes, I took the keys out, so it should have been in park. I went to jump out of the van when it started to roll backwards. This was when the OP Skaggs Grocery store was open and the parking lot was full of cars. In my instant of fear and I think a flash back of Robbies accident, I did the stupidest thing, I jumped back in the van and tried to stop it. Well the door hit me, knocked me down and believe it or not the front right tire ran right up my leg and off at my knee.

For years I thought an angel from heaven had gathered me up from the parking lot, made sure I was alive and then disappeared. Since I had never seen the man and because he left so quick, I really did believe him to be an angel but 5 years or more later he came up to me on the street to ask how I got along after that ordeal!

I didn't break any bones but messed up the knee and was black and blue from my toes to the center of my back. I began to have trouble with my left knee then and was told I needed knee surgery at that time. The right knee was damaged on the day of my first and only solo flight on one water ski at Twin Lakes years earlier!

So, do I need my knees replaced? You better believe it. I have been putting this off for years, 10 at least, I just could never figure out how to run a business 6 days a week and go in for surgery and be away from the business long enough to rehab. Well..... now I have no excuses. Life is crazy how it goes. If there had not been a fire in the old OP Skaggs building I would have never closed the Flower shop, and if I had never closed the flower shop I would have never opened a full time scrapbook store, and if the gal who came to me to buy that scrapbook store had not made a fast decision to sell it at auction, I would still be putting this knee surgery off! Well, like I said, I have run out of excuses, I have retired, so I have time, I have celebrated 40 years of working, loving what I was doing, with a wonderful relaxing trip to Cancun and now it's time to take care of the knees. I selected who I believe is the best Dr. in the whole intermountain area, Dr. Calton from Ogden, Ut. He tells me I am high risk, I guess he thinks I am too old and fat but neither of those things can I change overnight, and since I am looking forward to Spring and Summer now that I am retired, the time has come to get it done. Well at least to get one of them done. So.....ready or not here I go! The date is set for next Wednesday, February 27, 2008.

Oh if you don't believe in positive thinking get this..... Anyone who knows me knows that I believe in the book The Secret and I have loved Oprah ever since I saw her as a news woman on TV while visiting my daughter when she was a nanny in New Jersery. So if Oprah says "do it", I do it! A week before my appointment with Dr. Calton, she was talking about closing your eyes and visualizing what you want has already happened. So I close my eyes and think the surgery is over and the pain is gone! Well I open my eyes but the pain is still there so I am thinking to my self what can I visualize so I close my eyes again and think pick a date for knee replacement surgery and 2-28-08 comes to me. Now keep in mind this is before Dr. Calton has even agreed to do the surgery. I never gave that date another thought until I was sitting with my friend in the Dr's office waiting for Dr. Calton to come in and I remembered the Oprah show and said to her. "Do you have a calander", She pulled one out and I said what day is the 28th and she said Thrusday and I said Oh well Dr. Calton doesn't do surgery on Thursdays so my date must be Wednesday the 27th, and I related what had happened. Well after some discussion with the doctor and after he and I came to an agreement that if he didn't do the surgery I would find a Dr who would, he said that he was about 3 months out and that I could continue losing weight before surgery. Then he said to ask his gal to schedule surgery and that I could request to be notified of any cancellations. I went directly to her desk to set up a date, she ask when I wanted it and being a smartie, I said "Oh Monday will be fine then she said; "Oh I just had a cancellation how about February 27th"? I just smiled and said great! So, once again, ready or not here I go. Am I nervous, scared and all that stuff? Of course, I have never had surgery and only been in a hospital 3 times in my life for the birth of my children. I know that "my book of life" has already been written, and I have no idea what chapter I am in, but what ever is to be, I will be happy with the end results. :-)

Preserving Memories of Cancun

I have been busy getting my Cancun photo's edited and an album completed and off to be printed. I can't believe how easy it is to do it digital. I used Memory Mixer 2 to build the album and then used LifeTimez designs. I tried something new, I used 5 different albums; Tropicana, Beaches, Island fun, Sunshine, and, Popsicles. It was so easy, I just opened each of these as if I was building an album and then when I got ready for pages I just imported them into the Tropicana album. I had a bonus of being able to use all the embellishments because I purchased the LifeTimez designs bundle.

Within just a few days I had the album of 33 pages completed and uploaded to Top-Line Creations for printing. In addition to that, I made CD's to share and added music I located on the internet called "Modern Jazz Samba" that fit Cancun was perfect. With one click the album was ready to view. I can view the jpg files as a slide show and I burned DVD's. And if all of that isn't enough, I went to slide.com, uploaded the pages and now I can share the album on my web site www.Happinessisscrapbooking.com or email it to my friends and family. What a deal.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow?

It just keeps coming and I am just lovin it! Well, maybe enough is enough? It's a darn good thing we just enjoyed a vacation in Cancun or I might not be so "Happy" about all this snow. I was just talking with my daughter last night and we decided that this is the most snow we have had since 1992 when my 1st grandaughter was born. 15 yers ago, can that be possible? They live in Ogden, Ut and have been getting 12" to 24" a day at times. As I write this, Ogden is being talked about on TV. I know it makes life harder for many people but it's like a worker at Webber State Univ. said about snow removal, "It's all in a days work".

I sure picked the best winter to retire, I can't tell you how much I enjoy just being at home watching the snow come down instead of driving our country roads in to work. This winter is making for some good scrapbooking, so Let it Snow, but I sure hope Spring is around the corner. I will love that season just as much as this one. It's called thinking positive :-)

Oh, My Gosh, What a Super Vacation our Trip to Cancun, Mexico was

What a vacation our trip to Cancun, Mexico was. We just got home at 2:30 a.m. this morning, but I could not wait to share it with you. (I will be back later to tell you more). A year ago when the trip was announced by Topline-creations I didn't even pick up on it. It wasn't until I was half way there and received a phone call from Jim, the owner, congratulating me, that I got excited to win the trip.

Those of you who know me, know that I am into thinking positive....when ever I get other thoughts in my mind, I read again, The Secret and then I know I can do it. Well, some 36 TLC consultants later, my husband, my good friend Marilyn, and her husband headed for Cancun. (In the end, I won 3 all inclusive vacations and my own airfare.)

This vacation was the best I have ever experienced, including 2 trips to Hawaii and a trip to Alaska. The all inclusive method is the best, everything is all taken care of for you. Once we checked into the beautiful Iberostar Playa Paraiso Resort we knew we were in heaven, or as close to it as you can get on earth! We experienced dinning every evening at 5 star restruants followed by fabulous stage shows in the theater with a different production every night. During the day we floated the lazy river, lounged in the sun, participated in the activities going on throughout the resort each day. We enjoyed a yummy free ice cream cone when ever we wanted one, (you know my theory, a perfect day ends with a good ice cream cone, well not every day!) We enjoyed a tour to the Tulum ruins which was amazing. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

Coming back to snow after spending 5 days in 80 degree weather was a shocker, like coming back to reality real fast, but the memories we made and the digital hardbound album I plan have printed through www.LifeTimez.com will make this vacation last forever. Life is good.........

Cancun Here We Come!

Well, it has been over 6 weeks since I retired. At first I wasn't sure it was for me. I had so much to do at home and boxes of personal "stuff" that I had collected over the years to sort through and find a home for. And after working for 38 years, I needed to do some deep house cleaning. At one point I declared that I was going to find myself a job, that it was easier to go to work every day rather than be at home.

Now I am settled in a bit, I enjoy just watching it snow, knowing that I don't have to drive into town, I don't have to do anything I don't want to and I have even been known to sleep in! (Something I have never done...I was the one up by 5:00 a.m. every day of my life.)

I won trips to Cancun, Mexico through Topline-Creations digital scrapbooking. This will be my official retirement party and along with my friends and husband I plan to enjoy the wonderful warm weather and take in a lot of sun. Heaven to me would be to be lounging on the beach with my laptop and the LifeTimez digital scrapbooking program. No phones ringing, no interuptions and plenty of time to get some scrappin done so Cancun Here We Come!

Today I Retire!

Well, I guess this is the day everyone waits years for, today I have retired after about 38 year of working. It doesn't hardly seem possible. I can't say that this is how I had expected it would happen!

I first started working years ago following the death of my oldest son. Back then most woman did not work and I had never planned to, but one Sunday afternoon a woman in our ward bought my second son to me kicking and screaming. She handed him to me and said; It's time you do something about how spoiled this kid is. Of couse as his Mother, I thought he was just perfect, and I still do! The very next day, I drove to Logan and enrolled him in a little day care center called Joy D Nursery. Back then, our school systems had no preschool, etc. I then got a job at Mode O Day clothing factory 1 block away and the rest as they say, is history.

Right from day one I loved working no matter what job I had. My first full time working job was sewubg at Mode O Day womans clothing store, then a few years at the Frankli County Extension Office and later I decided to open a floral shop where I specalized in wedding work. I ran the flower shop for over 30 years.

On December 12, 2005 a huge fire burned the old OP Skaggs building next door to us right to the ground. How our building was spared I will never know. Following the fire and smoke damage cleaning I never got the flower business back up and running. Just two weeks before the fire I had a good sale pending but following the fire and all the mess on main street, the couple decided not to buy the shop. I never did get the flower shop opened up after the cleaning for smoke damage took place. Since I had planned to stay in the building and try running a scrapbook store so I would be available to train a new owner, I just decided to go full time with scrapbooking.

In March of 2007 a gal who's husband was stationed at Mountain Home Airforce Base contacted me and wanted to purchase the business. I explained that it was less than a year old, with no financial records but she said she still wanted to purchase the Scrapbook Store, so on April 15, 2007 I sold the store and took over as Manager as per her request. The new owner had little or no interest in scrapbooking or the store. She had a rough time meeting all the requirement to become a new owner and never was able to provide what was necessary to advertise and support the business until it became profitable. After several possible sales were delayed or failed, she contracted with an auction company out of Pocatello, Prime Time Auctions to come and auction off all the contents. That sale gook place on Thursday, November 29, 2007.

Even thought this is not the way I had planned to retire after so many years, it is time. I have a desire to tutor women like myself who want to do digital scrapbooking so they can get all their photo's and memories preserved.

I have put off knee surgery for over 10 years and now I have no choice but to think of my health and to move on with what ever the next chapter of my life reads!

Well, it is official, Today I sold my floral coolers and all that was left from my flower shop, Flowers By Joyce, of 30 years. As excited as I am to be coming to the end of a very long career, my heart is a little empty. But I think it is Ok to feel that way. How sad it would have been, after so many years if I didn't have any feelings. i will miss my customers and friends.

I was always very dedicated to the business and LOVED every minute of it. What a blessing it was to have been given the talent (not that I didn't study hard in the beginning to learn how to design flower arrangements and wedding flowers) and the desire to do something in life that not only was a service to others but something that made me so HAPPY! I loved my customers and enjoyed working with all the brides who I was privileged to have done their wedding flowers, to decorate for their wedding and then in many cases cater refreshments for.

I always said how lucky I was to really "smell the roses" every day. I have always believed that in life a person should never have to go to "work"! My theory still is that what ever you love in life is what you should seek out to do. If you love children you should be a teacher, If you love caring for people you should be a nurse, If you love the outdoors, wildlife, etc. become a game warden or a hunting guide. If you have a talent for singing or music then entertain If you have leadership skills become the President! I never could figure out why young people go to collage to study something that they hate to do just because it would make them rich.

I never really made a lot of money but always enough for my needs. I started the floral and wedding business at my home in the tiny town of Weston, Idaho and soon the business out grew the small shop we had built there so we decided it was time to move to Preston.

I had some bad luck like when this woman new to Preston City Council didn't like the way the local dentist, who built a new flower shop for me, installed a handicap entrance and caused so much trouble over it that just a few months after our Grand Opening one day a city bulldozer showed up at the park entrance that bordered our brand new flower shop and dozed the handicap entrance out , leaving a drop off from our front door of 52 inches to the level ground. For 3 years we stayed in that building with rail road ties stacked to form steps to our front door. We lost a lot of business over that. Some we never gained back.

Then later, right after the set back in our nation of the 9-11 attacks on the world trade Center happened, OP Skaggs, the local grocery shop, right next to my shop burned to the ground which had a huge effect on the entire downtown area. Following the smoke damage cleanup and the loss of a sale for the business, I put the flower shop to sleep and opened a scrapbooking store. Deep down I had hope in my heart that someone would purchase the equipment I had to continue a flower shop in downtown Preston, but after two years of advertising it, I could see that was not going to happen, so today, October 19, 2007 I sold most of the equipment to a very nice couple who will be opening a flower shop in Arco, Idaho and my second cooler to a sweet gal who already has a shop in Boise, Idaho.

And so.......the cycle starts over and life goes on. One person ends a career and another one begins. And we are all HAPPY!

Digital Scrapbooking

I traveled to SLC on Saturday to teach a class at the TLC home office on LifeTimez digital scrapbooking software. There was a good group and they were very interested in digital scrapbooking. I have been doing digital scrapbooking for just one year now and have completed far more albums (completed, you know journaling and all) in the past year than I did in the previous 5 years.

During the meeting we learned that TLC will be moving from selling software to a full service online digital scrapbooking service called LifeTimez Online. I am really excited about this (not that I won’t continue to use Lifetimez software). I jumped right in and subscribed for the premier plan and can hardly wait to get started. On Tuesday, I posted a message about the 4th of July. Well, today I want to tell you that my heart was touched yesterday as I watched some young boy scouts post the flags at a 4th of July meeting in Lewiston, Ut at that small city's annual celebration. A young husband and father who is in the service, presented the mayor with a flag and read a story about where that flag had been. I don't think any of us give enough respect to our flag. As I sat there enjoying a nice warm summer day, free to do what ever I wish, I could not help but think of all the lives that have been given for ME, for the freedom I enjoy. I hope you will all take time in your busy life for the important things, like honoring and flying our flag. If you have a service man or woman in your life please give them a hug for me. I am so thankful to live in America, the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Changes in my life

I have been very busy since my last post. Some great changes have taken place in my life. First of all I had a very enjoyable vacation with our two married children and our 4 granddaughters. We all went to Disneyland as a family. (Well, we aren't a very big family, only 11 total). The girls were just the right age to enjoy it, 6 to 14. Our only grandson who is only 2, stayed home and that's ok because that gives us another excuse to go again in a few years. We had not been to Disneyland for 7 years and so this was our first visit to California Adventure and we loved it. Much to the surprise of my kids, I rode all the rides, even the Hollywood House of Terror and the Screamer. My thoughts the entire trip was that it truly is "the happiest place on earth" and you know me, I love happiness.

Of course we took tons on pictures and I am very happy to admit that I already have them scrapped the digital way. Never before in my life would I have a vacation album completed a month following the event. I really am hooked on digital scrapbooking and lovin it. Contact me if you want to learn more about it.

On April 15th I sold the scrapbooking store "Happiness Is Scrapbooking" to Jolene Wilkinson. As part of the sales agreement I will still be in the shop while we find and train a full time manager. Even though I have had a little bit of down feeling after owning my own business for 31 years. It is time for me to start thinking about retirement later this year. I am so happy that this sale will make it possible for our business to continue. I wish Jolene the very best and encourage you to stop by and give her your support. Spring is Here......

Well, Spring is here and isn't it wonderful. This is my favorite time of year. I love to watch the world wake up each spring. To me it is a chance to start over. Having been a florist for over 30 years, I love to see all the spring flowers pop up and it won't be but a few warm days until there will be colors of pink, purple and yellow showing up.

I was thinking just the other day that Spring is also a chance for each of us to wake up and start over. Get rid of all the negative thoughts that have been dragging you down. Try thinking good positive thoughts. I really do believe that is you think about the good things in your life that you can truly be happy.

I hope you can enjoy SPRING while it is her for it doesn't last long enough.

Thinking Positive

Have you ever notice how much better your day goes when you start out thinking "This will be a great day"?

Recently while attending a Chamber of Commerce meeting here in Preston a video from an Oprah show was shown talking about learning to think positive. It pointed out how that if we are negative about things that usually bad things will happen. Example: You think when the mail comes today "I am just sure that all that will be there is bills"; and sure enough that will happen. However, if you think "I just know that today I will receive a payment or a nice card from a friend"; then that is just what will arrive. I have spent most of life being happy and thinking positive but I am just like everyone else, I can get discouraged and then I begin to think negative thoughts. After the meeting I made up my mind to think good thoughts and to have faith enough that good things will come and guess what? I have had more good luck, been happier and yes, I have even been getting good things in the mail. Try adjusting your attitude and you will be having good days to.........

Valentine's Day

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day.... Mine was very strange for me. This is the first time in 31 years that I have not been working my buns off to fill hundreds of orders for men who wanted to tell their sweethearts how much they love them. It's been over a year now since the fire in the building next door. I never did get the flower shop back up and running again but last year on Valentines day I got feeling bad for my customers of many years so I ordered in roses so I could fill some orders. This year however I have a full service scrapbook store and so I did not offer or bring in any flowers.

It was a very sad day for me, having to send good customers away. I learned a big lesson. Life isn't about how much money you make in your profession, what ever it is, but how much you enjoy it. To me, the past 30 years of "smelling the roses every day" was about the service to others and the joy others have when they recieved my flowers. I will probably always miss those very busy holidays, but I will look forward and enjoy what ever is happening in my live on Valentine's Day and I will hold close to my heart the memories I have.

If any of my family or friends read this, just want you to know how much I love each of you.

It is always good to get away!

I took a couple of days off this weekend to celebrate my husband birthday. I had forgotten how good it is to get away for a few days. We attended a concert in Wendover, just a small town out across the salt flats of Utah. Mel Tellis and his daughter Pam were the entertainers and they really did a good job. This little town has just built a new concert hall, probably something some might say would never fly out there, but it will.

I could not help but think that we all make our own kind of music. For the young, good music is loud and wild. for us older folks, good sound, well dressed entertainers and old songs that we remember over the years is good. We all can make the best of life and get out of it just what we put into it.

Stretching myself to build an online store!

Oh my gosh have I been stretching myself to get my new Happiness Is..... online store up and running. If you know me at all, you know I love a challenge when it comes to anything to do with the computer, but this time I just about bit off more than I could chew!

A week or so ago I was having a talk with my friend Gary who owns Purple Cows. (Ok so you are right, I was pulled in by Purple Cows, because you know that anything purple in the world of scrapbooking must surely have been made just for me, since I love purple so much!) Gary was telling me how billions of dollars in business took place in 2006 just in the people purchasing Scrapbooking supplies online. He encouraged me to start my own online store to help boost my sales. His encouragement and some good suggestions helped me to get it going.

After some research, I decided to go with a Yahoo store since I already have them hosting my web site www.HappinessIsScrapbooking.com Seems Ebay has made some major changes as far as online stores go and may are disgruntled with Ebay right now. I learned that Yahoo offers 24/7 tech support so I just knew with their help I could do it. Thanks to some great help from the Yahoo tech's, I am doing ok.

At this time, my store is small but I hope to grow it in the future. Notice that I sell baby blessing dress and gifts, I am going to clear out the remainder of my floral and wedding supplies, and my husband invented a heater for Polaris Rangers. Well I have tried it all now....... I just completed the first stages of an online store. Seems like i love most anything done on the computer but building a store was just about as far a stretch for me as I can handle. I started about two weeks and about half way along I thought I just don't have the knowledge to do this and then I decided that I was to far along to back out.
